University of Surrey – Global Graduate Award in Languages

We are nearing the end of the academic year at the University of Surrey, and all the students on the Global Graduate Award programme have been working extremely hard on their assessments; it has been a very busy 2 weeks of filming presentations! The Global Graduate Award is a programme which is open to all the university students whatever subject they are studying, who would like to compliment their degree by learning a language.

I am extremely pleased that for the second year running I have been invited to teach BSL alongside spoken languages including Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese. British Sign language has been such a popular subject that I have been teaching several different groups each week at Level 1 and 2. These students recognise how important it is to be able to communicate with Deaf BSL users in their future careers, whether that be as doctors, engineers, actors or in the business world. Here I am surrounded by my 2018 Level 2 class. Good luck everyone! I look forward to teaching more of you in the Autumn. Kathleen.
