SignHealth Partners With Shout To Launch A New Crisis Text Line For Deaf People

Access to mainstream crisis mental health services for Deaf people is almost non-existent, and yet Deaf people are twice as likely to experience mental health problems than hearing people, facing communication barriers and difficulties accessing healthcare.

As part of World Suicide Prevention Day, SignHealth, powered by Shout, is launching a new free text message service to support Deaf people who are in crisis. Owned by Mental Health Innovations and with the support of The Royal Foundation the service is run by Shout trained staff and volunteers and it is available 24/7.

If you’re Deaf and experiencing a personal crisis, unable to cope and need support, text DEAF to the number 85258.
