International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt used BSL in Parliament as she announced a global disability conference which will take place in London later this month.
Dot Sign Language are extremely proud that Kathleen Grehan worked with Penny Mordaunt teaching her sign language. This is in addition to a group of staff from DFID (Department For International Development) studying an Introduction To BSL course with Kathleen in preparation for the conference. It sends out a clear message about the importance and value being able to communicate with Deaf BSL users.
In the UK approximately 50,000 people use BSL as their first language.
The historic moment, believed to be the first time a cabinet minister has used sign language on the front bench, was applauded by MPs.
