Jovial Sailor – British Sign Language Workshop

Kathleen and Paul very much enjoyed teaching BSL to staff at The Jovial Sailor pub in Ripley, Surrey.

Part of the Barons Pub Company, the team at the Jovial Sailor were keen to learn some basic signs to help them communicate when they welcome Deaf guests to their restaurant and bar.

As well as fingerspelling, we incorporated lots of signs to use when meeting people, showing them to their table and asking for their food order. Kathleen also explained the importance of booking a round table when people will be using BSL – so all signers can see each other, and trying to avoid dark shadowy corners for the same reason.

This pub is a favourite of Kathleen, Paul and their interpreter, so all look forward to returning soon. Contact us if your workplace is interested in similar training.
