What next?

Students can join the first unit of the Level 1 course and take 1 assessment – Signature BSL101 or they can then stop or choose to carry on and complete a full Level 1 qualification.

See our Level 1 page for full information.

An introductory course can be taught in 18-20 hours (e.g. 10 sessions of 2 hours), and there is the option to take the Signature BSL101 assessment for a recognised qualification.

We will cover everyday essentials – meeting and greeting, directions, Fingerspelling, numbers, days and months, travel, weather. We will introduce linguistics – how BSL uses a ‘topic-comment’ structure and how to construct a sentence, as well as explaining use of timelines and placement. We can also include some specialist vocabulary targeted at your workplace needs. For more information contact

Customised Training - An Example

Dot Sign Language have taught two 10 week BSL courses for the Government Department For International Development (DFID) in preparation for their Global Disability Summit. We have designed a customised course incorporating the vocabulary which their team needs, including discussion on humanitarian projects, sanitation and disease prevention.

This Spring Dot is teaching a short BSL course for The Recovery College in Frimley to help their team communicate with Deaf people attending their workshops. We have included vocabulary related to mental health and wellbeing.
