This will be a relaxed course running over an academic year. It is designed for learners who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in British Sign Language before deciding whether to start BSL Level 6 in September 2020.
It will incorporate in-depth teaching of BSL Linguistics to Level 4 standard which is a requirement in order to join a Level 6 course.
For learners who have passed BSL Level 3. If you are waiting for Level 3 results or need to re-sit assessments you are welcome to apply.
Also suitable for Deaf BSL users wishing to study their own language.
If you are interested in joining this course you will need an interview with Kathleen Grehan – Director of Dot Sign Language to assess your signing.
Kathleen will explain the aim, course content and assessment methods of this course. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
There is no charge for this. Please contact us to arrange an interview.
What will I learn?
The course will cover a wide range of topics to increase your knowledge of Deaf issues, and to help you prepare for a Level 6 course in the future.
There will be the option to take the Signature Level 4 Linguistics assessment. (This course does not include all assessments which comprise the full BSL Level 4 qualification.)
Please attend our information day or arrange a meeting so Kathleen can assess your signing through an informal conversation.
You must be age 19+ to take the Level 4 linguistics assessment.
See Qualification Specification for full details of Level 4 linguistics assessments. (Please note that this is not the full BSL Level 4 qualification.)
