This course is appropriate for those who are meeting Deaf customers or clients or working with Deaf colleagues. Most Communication Support Worker (CSW) roles require a Level 3 qualification. Other reasons include to communicate with deaf family and friends or simply out of interest. This qualifications is also suitable for Deaf people who would like to achieve a qualification in their own language.

Our Level 3 teachers are committed to delivering stimulating and enjoyable lessons tailored to meet the needs of all students. The course includes in depth study of linguistics to gain an understanding of BSL as a language. Classes are focused on Deaf culture, education, issues affecting Deaf people at work and home.
When studying Level 3, students have the opportunity to work 1 to 1 with their teacher to ‘polish up’ their presentation skills. Throughout the course students are encouraged to research deaf issues and film themselves presenting in preparation for the assessments.

Qualification: Signature Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language (QCF) BSL Level 3 Ref: QAN: 601/1116/1, Signature: BSL32 BSL Level 3
The course consists of 3 units which will be assessed separately:
- BSL320 Sign Linguistics Knowledge
- BSL321 Understand varied BSL in a range of work and social situations
- BSL322 Use varied BSL in a range of work and social situations
The BSL320 is worth 4 credits and consists of 20 guided learning hours. BSL321 and BSL322 are worth 12 credits each and consist of 65 guided learning hours each. Students are expected to do another 150 hours of additional study.

The Level 3 is a nationally-recognised qualification equivalent in standard to a GCE Advanced Level and Level B2 on the common European Framework. It allows access to further studies such as a degree in Deaf Studies or an interpreter qualification etc.
