Art Night is London’s largest contemporary art festival.
Christine Sun Kim is a Berlin-based artist whose first language is American Sign Language (ASL.)She uses the media of drawing and sound in performance to investigate her relationship with spoken language and the aural environment.
For Art Night 2019 Kim will collaborate with students at Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children.
This will include an experimental installation exploring how experiences of deafness shape understandings of language and culture; a sound piece at the new COS concept store made with musician and producer Matt Karmil and a text-based ‘declaration’ championing and celebrating the benefits of sign language on the hoarding on Cubitt Square.
There will be BSL volunteers on the night to share more information with you if needed. You can spot them wearing coral T-shirts!
