The Level 2 Certificate follows on from Level 1 and develops further the ability to communicate using BSL in a range of social and school, college or work-related contexts. Students will be expected to participate in longer and more open-ended exchanges than in Level 1.
Level 2 will be of interest to those wanting to progress onto higher BSL qualifications which are required for certain careers and roles such as a BSL/English Interpreter, Communication Support Worker, Teacher of the Deaf and other jobs working with the Deaf.

This qualification has been developed in accordance with the National Language Standards at Level 2.
What will I learn?
On a Level 2 course you will learn about BSL grammar, placement, non-manual features and timelines in more detail. Alongside vocabulary you will start to learn about basic linguistics. As well as classroom hours you will be expected to use resources e.g. online BSL dictionaries and websites, and practise at home. Extra support is given where needed so everyone has the best possible chance of gaining the qualification.
The course consists of 3 units and 3 different assessments:
- BSL201 BSL Receptive Skills
- BSL202 BSL Productive Skills
- BSL203 BSL Conversational Skills
The total number of credits for this qualification is 15. There are 5 credits for each of the units BSL201, BSL202 and BSL203.

Fees are payable two weeks before the start of the course but we do offer the option of paying in instalments.
